Charles Uffelman, known as Chas, moved to Montgomery County in 1998 with his family at 5 years old where he grew up on a family farm south of Clarksville. He was active in 4-H and FFA, showing cattle and going to state on the competitive grilling team.

Chas received his bachelors in Political Science from the University of Memphis in 2016 where he began his career as an organizer. Over the next 10 years he would go on to work on election campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels and for nonprofits with a focus on civil rights and worker rights. He is an active member of his union, United Furniture Workers-CWA and a former member of IBEW Local 369.

Since settling back down in Clarksville in 2021, Charles has taken an active role in the community: serving as the Montgomery County Democratic Party Chair (22-25), is active in the Urban Ministries led Emergency Warming Shelter, participates in Strongtowns Clarksville, is a member of the local AARP Chapter, is an alumni of Leadership Clarksville (26), served as assistant coach for the APSU Beef Show Team (24), co-founded local LGBTQ+ group Clarksville Q, completed Citizen’s Police Academy, and was selected for Leadership CMCSS 26-27. He is a follower of Jesus Christ and a proud member of Madison Street United Methodist Church where you can find him singing in the choir and processing with the cross on Sundays.

Like many Clarksvillians in their 20s and 30s, Chas had to work two jobs to save up a down payment to buy a house near downtown where he lives with his two Australian Shepherds, Ozzie and Kaia. He knows that while Clarksville is growing like a weed, we are getting squeezed. He’s running for city council to bring down housing costs, make our roads and neighborhoods easier to get around, and to invest in a thriving, family friendly downtown. He’s built his career on working hard for working people and will do the same as your Councilmember.
